Retinal Surgery

We have a state-of-the-art retinal facility with experienced surgeons and well-trained staff. We perform Vitrectomy not only for the rich but also for the poor. Poor patients get free retina surgeries under Ayushman Bharath and Chief Minister’s health scheme in Tamil Nadu. The surgery is performed through local anaesthesia, and because of advanced technology, we do completely suture-free surgeries. Because of that, patients have very early recovery.

What are the diseases that need retinal surgery?

Any patient with advanced diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, or a macular hole. These are some of the reasons for retinal surgery.

How difficult is retinal surgery?

Retinal surgery is a very difficult procedure, no doubt. When it is done by experienced surgeons with the best technology, it is very fruitful with patients regaining good vision after the surgery.

How long does a patient need to stay in the hospital?

In our hospital, there is no need to stay after retinal surgery.

How painful is retinal surgery?

Nowadays surgery is done through tiny openings done by instruments called Trocar. So there is no necessity for sutures and hence it is very painless.

How long does it take to recover vision?

During retinal surgery, we usually fill the eye with either a gas or oil. If filled with oil, patients regain vision early, but it may be a little hazy. Whereas if filled with gas, it stays in the eye till our human body forms the liquid in the back of the eye. Till then, for about three to four weeks, you will have less vision.

How assured is vision recovery after surgery?

If the patient comes to our hospital at an early stage of their problems, we can recover even full vision for those patients. If they present late, then the visual recovery will be a little difficult because of other complications.
